Portugal finished as Europe’s runner-up in men’s senior trampoline team, on June 2. The championship took place in Rimini, Italy. The Portuguese team won the silver medal and scored two points behind the French team, which won the gold medal. The team composed of Diogo Abreu, Pedro Ferreira, Lucas Santos and Rúben Tavares, scored a total of 10 points, two more than the Great Britain gymnasts, who won the bronze medal.
Pedro Ferreira, 24-year-old student of Aerospace Engineering at Técnico, finished runner-up (team) on two occasions and won two medals at the Synchronized Trampoline World Cup, in 2016 and 2021. He also won a bronze medal at the 2021 Youth Olympics. Diogo Abreu, 28-year-old gymnast born in the United States and Técnico alumnus (Electrical and Computer Engineering), has been training since he was 7 years old. He was member of teams that won three medals in European championships and a silver medal at the World Championships in St. Petersburg, in 2018.
It should also be recalled that the duo Diogo Abreu and Pedro Ferreira had already won the bronze medal last February in the synchronized trampoline competition in Baku, Azerbaijan. A group of national athletes: 24 senior and 24 junior athletes participated in the most recent European Championship in Trampoline, held in Italy.
More recently, at the end of June, Pedro Ferreira and Diogo Abreu participated in the Coimbra Trampoline World Cup. The athletes ranked 4th in synchronized trampoline. Pedro Ferreira won the Silver Medal in Men’s individual trampoline, and Diogo Abreu ranked 4th in Men’s individual trampoline.
In the beginning of July, the Portuguese duo won the Bronze Medal at the Arosa World Cup, in Switzerland, thus achieving a leadership position in the world’s synchronized trampoline. The Técnico alumnus Diogo Abreu also won men’s individual Trampoline World Cup.
