Applications for the Gulbenkian merit scholarships for students applying for their first year of higher education are open until 31 October.
The scholarship provides €2,000 per academic year and includes a one-time additional grant of €2,000 to support a period of international mobility, whether through Erasmus or another similar programme offered by the student’s institution.
Scholarships may be renewed until the completion of a Master’s degree, subject to the renewal conditions outlined in the regulations.
Eligibility criteria:
- Applicants must have achieved a minimum score of 170 points in their application for higher education through the general admission process, for the academic year 2025/26, in the degree programme in which they are enrolled;
- Proof of application for the social support grant from the Directorate-General for Higher Education (DGES). In order to verify household income, applying for the DGES social support grant is a mandatory requirement for the Gulbenkian Merit Scholarship, regardless of the household income level;
- Scholarships will only be awarded to candidates whose annual per capita household income does not exceed €14,000, as verified by the Social Services of their higher education institution.
