ULisboa highlighted in Nature Index 2020

Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) is the Portuguese institution with high quality research in the natural sciences, according to Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables. ULisboa stands out in three subject areas: Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences. The 2020 tables are based on Nature Index data from 1 December 2018 to 30 November 2019.

The Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables highlight the institutions and countries that dominated high quality research in the natural sciences. The Portuguese institutions also included in the Nature Index 2020 were: Champalimaud Foundation – which leads the Life Sciences subject area, International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL) and Instituto Gulbenkian Ciência (IGC), etc.

The leading research institutions in the Nature Index 2020 Annual Tables are the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Harvard University and Max-Planck Society.

The rankings are based on an institution’s or country’s share of articles published in the 82 prestigious scientific journals selected by an independent panel of experts and tracked by the Nature Index database.

The analysis is based on six topics, one global, four thematic (Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences), and one that counts the number of journals in which the publications appear.
