Applications are open until 26 July 2025 for seven PhD scholarships awarded by Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) as part of Unite! Widening, of which Instituto Superior Técnico is an integral part. The initiative is part of the Unite!Widening Industry-Embedded Doctoral School and aims to support doctoral students developing projects in strategic areas and involving a collaboration with an industrial partner.
The scholarships are aimed at students holding a Master’s degree in the field of Science and Technology, enrolled in a PhD programme or in a non-degree course, integrated into the educational project of ULisboa or one of its Schools. The projects submitted must fall within one of the four strategic areas:
- Health & Biotech
- Urban & Resources Sustainability
- Circular Economy & Materials
- Digital & Autonomous Technologies
The selection process will take into account the relevance and innovation of the project, international scientific cooperation, links with industry, as well as the candidate’s background and motivation. Each application will be evaluated by a jury. The final score will be calculated as a weighted sum based on the importance of each criterion.
The scholarship will last for 12 months, starting on 1 October 2025, under an exclusive dedication regime, and may be renewed for up to a maximum of 36 months until the end of the project (31 December 2028). Applications must be sent by email to candidaturas.rh@reitoria.ulisboa.pt, attaching the documentation required in the call for applications.
The Unite! Widening initiative, coordinated by Fátima Montemor, a professor and researcher at Instituto Superior Técnico, is a spin-off of Unite! – one of the European university alliances funded by the European Commission – which brings together 9 leading higher education institutions in the fields of Engineering, Science and Technology.
