Maria Isabel Marques Dias

(born August 30, 1965, Lisbon)

Isabel Marques Dias has specialised in Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Technological properties of Clays, with a view to their potential industrial use. She completed her doctoral and master’s dissertations on this subject in 1993 and 1998, respectively, at the Faculty of Sciences of Universidade de Lisboa. In 2014, she obtained the Habilitation Degree in Georesources from Instituto Superior Técnico. She has been a Coordinator Researcher at the Department of Nuclear Sciences and Engineering (DECN) at Técnico since 2020.

She has used the knowledge acquired in this area in other fields, such as in the environmental and cultural heritage domains, starting a new career path at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN) in 1998. Here she developed skills in the application of nuclear methods of analysis in geosciences, environment, NORM, archaeology, and art history, with a special focus on the treatment, recovery and recycling of Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment.

She is the author and/or co-author of numerous publications, including book chapters and articles in international peer-reviewed journals. She has participated in Spanish and Portuguese exhibitions/museums catalogues.

She is a member of several national and international professional associations and she was President of the Iberian Society of Archaeometry Applied to Cultural Heritage (SaPaC).

She has also been involved in management activities at various levels, including Board member of Técnico – CTN Campus (2014-2019); member of the School Council (2015-2019); Vice-President of Instituto Superior Técnico for Financial Management (2020-2023).
