Participatory Concert:
In this performance by Os Músicos do Tejo, the audience is invited to sing the melodies of the 11 chorales of Bach’s St John Passion. The aim is to emphasise the spirit of communion that underlies this work.
Throughout the work, the narration of Christ’s passion is punctuated by chorales with Lutheran melodies that the whole congregation knew. Bach includes these moments of religious reflection throughout the work and it is in these moments that we count on the audience’s participation. In these 11 chorales, audience members will be allowed and encouraged to sing the choral melody on which they are based. Support material will be provided on the event webpage so that everyone can prepare. There will be a rehearsal with the artists on the day of the concert, at 5 p.m., in Aula Magna.
