«The 6th edition of the Contigo+ Programme will take place on 9th January, at 4 p.m., at the Congress Centre of Instituto Superior Técnico.

The topic of the session is “AI tools in teaching, learning and knowledge assessment”.

Given its teaching and research areas, Técnico has a pioneering role to play in exploring the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in a wide variety of areas, particularly in training students for emerging work methodologies in engineering, science and technology.

Since access to these tools has been widespread since November 2022, the Scientific Council (SC) and the Pedagogical Council (PC) set up the working committee “Reflection on Teaching and Training in the era of Large Language Models, REFLeT Committee”, to support decisions on the use of language models in teaching, learning and knowledge assessment activities.

The committee was made up of the following members: Professors Carlos Silva (CP, Department of Mechanical Engineering), Eduardo Júlio (CC, Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Environment), João Pimentel Nunes (CP, Department of Mathematics), Pedro Lima (CC, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering), Paulo Mota Pinto (Lawyer, University Professor and Member of the Portuguese Parliament in the 15th legislature), Porfírio Silva (Philosopher and Member of the Portuguese Parliament in the 15th legislature). The work was coordinated by Professor Arlindo Oliveira (President of INESC, Department of Computer Science and Engineering).

The report on the work of the REFLet Commission will be presented at the session, as well as the PC Deliberation Document on the use of AI in teaching methods and knowledge assessment.

The programme also includes two talks followed by a discussion on examples of elementary applications of generative AI to teaching, and Ideas that use AI to Increase Productivity in Teaching.»
