«The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC) organizes an evocative session in memory of José Bioucas Dias (1960-2020), which will take place in the Amphitheatre EA3, followed by a visit to the LT1 Laboratory that will be named “Laboratório José Bioucas-Dias” (North Tower, 4th Floor).

This homage arises from the fact that this laboratory is part of his legacy. A laboratory that he helped to create and where he trained and inspired countless generations of students.

The program will include an opening speech by the President of DEEC José Santos-Victor, a speech by Mário Figueiredo, which will portray the trajectory and academic contributions of José Bioucas Dias, a final speech by the President of Instituto Superior Técnico, Rogério Colaço and, in the end, a visit to the “Laboratório José Bioucas-Dias”.

José Bioucas-Dias was a senior researcher of the Pattern and Image Analysis group of Instituto de Telecomunicações, in Lisbon. Since 1995, he has been with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at Instituto Superior Técnico, where he was Full Professor. He was considered by Clarivate Analytics, several times in a row, one of the “world´s most influential Scientific Minds”».
