«The International Microorganism Day 2025 will once again be celebrated at Técnico (Alameda Campus), on 17th September.

This annual event is a unique opportunity to highlight the importance of microbiology in addressing some of the most pressing challenges of our time — from human health to climate change resilience, and sustainable agriculture.

The celebration will feature invited talks by experts in the field, showcasing how microbiology continues to shape our understanding of the world and drive innovation across disciplines.

Following last year’s success, we will bring back the “Microbiology Trail”, an interactive experience designed for children, teenagers, and students. Participants will explore a series of engaging stations with games, experiments, and demonstrations. Along the route, they will answer questions and tackle challenges, with fun prizes awaiting at the end.

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy a day full of learning, curiosity, and appreciation for the microbial world that surrounds and sustains us.

Técnico has actively participated in the international celebration of this day, having held several activities in its various editions since 2017. These include open laboratories, lectures for secondary and higher education students, courses for secondary school teachers, and exhibitions where visitors can conduct their own experiments and taste products of microbiological origin. The activities annually benefit from the contributions of national and international scientists, professors, and graduate students working in the field of Microbiology.»
