«The International Microorganism Day is celebrated on September 17. This date marks the day on which, in 1683, the Dutchman Anton van Leeuwenhoek, a merchant without fortune or academic degrees, sent a letter to the Royal Society of London, in which he reported the first observation of unicellular organisms.

The objective of this day is to raise awareness among young people and society in general about the importance of microorganisms and their role in health, the environment, industry, the economy and everyone’s quality of life.

Técnico has an active participation in the international celebration of this day, having carried out several activities in its various editions since 2017.

On September 16, we will be at Instituto Superior Técnico celebrating International Microorganism Day 2023 with several exhibitions, activities and games related to the role of microorganisms in Food, Human Health and the Environment. We also organised a training course in Microbiology dedicated to secondary school teachers.

The Alameda campus has four entrances. In each one, there will be a campus map with the route to our activities and/or the Microbiology training course.»
