IP Talks are informal lunchtime sessions aimed at the entire academic community, namely researchers, professors, PhD students, and anyone engaged in scientific work or interested in Intellectual Property.
«How can patents help you measure technological progress in your area of research?
If you’re involved in innovation, technology transfer, or R&D strategy, this session is for you.
The participants will have the opportunity to explore methodologies for analysing and estimating technological development based on patent data — a powerful tool for identifying trends, assessing competitiveness, and supporting strategic decisions.
Through real-world examples, participants will learn how patent indicators can be used to track innovation across fields like chemistry, biotech, and beyond.
The event is aimed at researchers, entrepreneurs, or those just IP-curious. It will be an opportunity to uncover how intellectual property fuels and reflects technological evolution.
The session will be led by António Campos, a professor at Instituto Superior Técnico, Department of Mechanical Engineering.
The first 25 registered participants to arrive at the session will receive a lunch box.»
