IP Talks are informal lunchtime sessions aimed at the entire academic community, namely researchers, professors, PhD students, and anyone engaged in scientific work or interested in Intellectual Property.

«From software tools to Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning systems, digital solutions are increasingly embedded in academic research. But when does a technical development qualify as a computer implemented invention?

Understanding how these innovations are framed within Intellectual Property is essential to deciding what can be protected, when to disclose results, and how to align research with future collaboration and knowledge transfer opportunities.

This session explores how to identify and protect digital and software-based innovations.

Participants will learn how to determine whether a project qualifies as a computer implemented invention, understand protection strategies for software-related developments, recognise the role of IP in AI and data-driven research, and connect technical development with commercialization and collaboration pathways.

The session will be led by Luís Ferreira, Patent Attorney at Patentree, who will share practical examples from his work with R&D teams. This is a hands-on session, and participants are encouraged to bring a laptop.

The first 25 participants who check in on site will receive a lunch box (limited to one per person).

IP Talks @Técnico is an initiative powered by Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD).»
