Professor José Manuel Fonseca de Moura will be awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by Universidade de Lisboa, in recognition of his academic, scientific and professional outstanding contributions, worldwide and with a strong impact in Portugal and IST, in signal processing and data science.

Professor José Manuel Fonseca de Moura will be awarded the Doctor Honoris Causa degree by Universidade de Lisboa, in recognition of his academic, scientific and professional outstanding contributions, worldwide and with a strong impact in Portugal and IST, in signal processing and data science.

Professor José Manuel Fonseca de Moura is the Philip L. and Marsha Dowd University Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Carnegie Mellon University. He was full professor at Técnico in the 1980s and president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. IEEE has about 422,000 members in more than 160 countries. He has been director of the CMU Portugal program since 2006 and he is a member of the Portuguese Diaspora Council.

The Doctor Honoris Causa ceremony will take place at Instituto Superior Técnico, on 13th September 2021, at 2:30 p.m.
