The Integration Bee is a mathematical competition focused on integral calculus, created at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1981 and held annually to this day.
Since then, this mathematical challenge has been replicated by various universities in both the U.S. and Europe, and now arrives at Instituto Superior Técnico.
The competition can be played individually or in pairs, and the format is usually divided into several phases:
- Written Phase – Teams solve a set of integrals and only the best advance
- Semi-Finals and Finals – The finalists compete live, solving integrals in real time
The format may change slightly depending on the number of registered participants; for example, there may also be a quarter-final stage, or there may not be a written phase. The phases that take place live will be open to any student who wants to watch the competition.
Any undergraduate or master’s student at Universidade de Lisboa can participate.
