«Physics Week is a scientific and educational event organised by the Physics Students’ Organisation at Instituto Superior Técnico (NFIST) that, every year, brings thousands of students from across the country to Alameda Campus of Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, offering them direct and engaging contact with the world of Physics.
Aimed at primary and secondary school students, Physics Week’s main goal is to spark interest in science through a practical, interactive, and accessible approach. Throughout the event, participants have the opportunity to explore physical phenomena, ask questions, experiment, and gain a deeper understanding of the role Physics plays in everyday life and in technological development.
The highlight of the event is the Physics Circus, a series of interactive experiments and demonstrations led by Técnico students. These activities are designed to showcase the more fun and fascinating side of Physics, revealing the principles behind physical phenomena in a clear and engaging way.
In addition to the Physics Circus, Physics Week offers a diverse range of activities that enrich the participants’ experience:
- Planetarium sessions, where participants can discover the origins and mythology of a wide variety of constellations, learn how to identify objects in the night sky, and explore fascinating facts about the history and evolution of the Universe.
- Laboratory visits, organised in collaboration with the research centres of Instituto Superior Técnico. These visits allow participants to enjoy an immersive experience in a scientific research environment and gain first-hand insight into the work carried out in the field of Physics.
- Workshops, or practical hands-on activities, in which participants have the opportunity to build experiments related to physical phenomena, developing both scientific reasoning and experimental skills.
- Talks delivered by guest speakers, covering topics from different areas of Physics in an engaging way and always adapted to the target audience.»
