Lecture:
Electrical and Computer Engineering underpins most of the technologies that are essential to many areas of modern society: health, transport, communications, media, energy, industry, agriculture, entertainment, space exploration and the seabed. To find out what you can learn and do in this area, there’s nothing better than a set of recent examples of projects carried out by students under the guidance of lecturers from the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Mário Figueiredo is a Full Professor at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa, an IST Distinguished Professor and a Feedzai Professor of Machine Learning. He is also the coordinator of the “Information and Data Science” thematic line at Instituto de Telecomunicações. His research interests include machine learning, signal processing and optimization. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the International Association for Pattern Recognition, the European Association for Signal Processing and the European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems. He is a member of the Portuguese Academy of Engineering and the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.
At Técnico, he has mainly taught information theory (Information and Communication Theory) and machine learning (Deep Learning, as part of an MSc Programme, and Statistical Learning, as part of a PhD Programme) courses.
