We are counting down to the Microorganism day at Técnico.
The International Microorganism Day (IMD 2019) will be celebrated at Técnico on September 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Among the various activities promoted by the Portuguese Society of Microbiology to commemorate the International Microorganism Day, several activities will take place at Alameda Campus. These activities will involve professors, researchers and students of Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária, Instituto Superior de Agronomia and Faculdade de Farmácia of ULisboa.
The activities include talks on “Microorganisms and Society” on PA3 room (Math building). During the talks on the role of microorganisms in our lives, in Health, Agriculture, Environment, Food and the BioEconomy, we will perform a Skype meeting with other places where commemorations are also taking place, in Portugal, Europe and America that will be broadcasted through the internet. All the sessions will be transmitted live .
In the Chemistry Tower garden, there will be exhibitions and activities “Microorganisms in the Garden” with more than 10 stands of activities prepared and explained by PhD and MSc students. Several secondary schools were invited to attend the exhibitions that will bring together people of all ages for a fruitful day of dissemination activities on the science and technology of the microorganisms. A craft beer tasting will take place in the garden as well. The beer was produced at LXBrewery, in collaboration with the Biological Sciences Research Group of IST and Institute for Bioengineering and Biosciences (iBB-IST).
