«Between 18 and 21 May 2026, Técnico’s Loures Campus will host the “Training School 2026: AccelMAPs (Accelerating Energy Materials Development: From Legacy Labs to Material Acceleration Platforms)”, an intensive training school dedicated to emerging approaches for accelerating the discovery and development of energy materials.

Integrated within the COST Action EU-MACE (CA22123), this initiative aims to promote the transition from traditional laboratories to Material Acceleration Platforms (MAPs), combining advanced experimentation, computational modelling and digital technologies.

The event is locally organised by the AccelMAPs Team, composed of:

Over four days, participants will take part in a programme focused on the fundamentals and concepts of MAPs, exploring the integration of simulation and atomistic and multiscale modelling, artificial intelligence, automation, robotics, and the digitalisation of laboratory workflows.

The school will feature international experts from leading European institutions, as well as national researchers, including Nuno Barradas and Victoria Corregidor (Técnico / C²TN).

Primarily aimed at PhD students, early-career researchers and professionals working in materials science, engineering and AI-assisted experimental technologies, the training will provide:

  • How to integrate traditional laboratories with Material Acceleration Platforms;
  • Applications of AI and automation in materials discovery and development;
  • AI-assisted materials characterisation;
  • Hands-on experience with advanced workflows and automated laboratories;
  • Networking opportunities with international experts.»
