«The first Tropical Summit “Foreseeing Answers to Global Challenges” will be organised by Instituto Superior Técnico, the Tropical College of Universidade de Lisboa and the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA). The summit will focus on four main thematic areas:
- Planetary Health
- Agricultural Development
- Territorial and Social Transitions
- Human Enrichment
This pioneering event, organised under the High Patronage of the President of the Portuguese Republic and with the support of the Government, aims to bring together leaders from around the world to address the most pressing tropical challenges.
The event’s programme includes a high-level panel where politicians, decision-makers from major organisations and renowned experts will discuss the state of compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals and present their strategic vision of how they can be met. Maria da Graça Carvalho, Minister of Environment and Energy, Paulo Rangel, Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Carmen Neto, Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources (Angola), Jeffrey D. Sachs, President of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network will join this panel, among other personalities.
The Tropical Summit will take place in Lisbon from 4 to 8 November 2024 and will focus on the 2030 Agenda, addressing it as an imminent reality, aiming to establish new partnerships and initiatives through South-South-North triangular cooperation and investment for the next six years.»
