The ULisboa RedeMOV Conference “Assessing alternative scenarios for reducing transport poverty at the urban scale: case study in Lisbon” will take place on 11 March 2025, at 5 p.m., in the TTC@ULisboa Auditorium. The conference is part of the “Conversas à Terça” conference series and will be presented by Francisco Coelho Plácido.

The transport sector is responsible alone for 30.9% of the final energy consumption in the EU-27 and 25.8% of the GHG emissions. Therefore, the decarbonization of the transportation sector must be accelerated. However, this transition must be made in a way that reduces the existent inequality between different members of society. To address this issue, a Transport Poverty Index (TPI) was created, which takes into account the accessibility to public transport and the percentage of income spent on mobility. The TPI allows to identify not only the zones at higher risk of transport poverty, but also the specific improvement strategies in each area that would allow to increase accessibility levels, leading to a decrease in transportation expenditure.

The redeMOV organises the “Conversas à Terça”, a monthly conference series that aims to be a space for debate and reflection on urban mobility.
