«The Thematic Interdisciplinary Network on Smart Urban Mobility (redeMOV) at Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) will organise the Conference “Equity implications of transport fares: Insights from Lisbon”, within the scope of the conference series “Conversas à Sexta”. The conference will be given by Kelli Silver, PhD student at the Center of Geographic Studies (CEG), Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning (IGOT).

The price of fares significantly influences individual travel decisions, affecting destinations and modes of transport. In this conference, we delve into the equity dimensions of public transport fares, based on the urban landscapes of Lisbon and Rio de Janeiro. We explore the intersections with individual characteristics and broader socio-economic structures, shedding light on the impacts felt by various demographic and territorial groups, thus offering valuable insights into the potential benefits and burdens of fare reforms, underlining the need for inclusive transport policies that prioritise accessibility for all.»
