Alumna wins André Jordan Award

Beatriz Cabral de Melo was distinguished for her thesis "Effect of externalities on investment in urban renewal: a Game Theory application”, which explains the investment options in urban renewal according to Game Theory application.

Beatriz Cabral de Melo, former student of Civil Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico, won the 4th edition of André Jordan Award in the category of Master’s dissertation. This award distinguishes the best academic works on cities and real estate, carried out in Portuguese universities.

The alumna was distinguished for her thesis “Effect of externalities on investment in urban renewal: a Game Theory application”, which explains the investment options in urban renewal according to Game Theory application.

Beatriz Cabral de Melo’s thesis was distinguished for its innovative approach: “The Game theory is a powerful tool within social sciences, being particularly interesting for the study of decision making related to spatial issues”.

Beatriz Cabral de Melo developed a theoretical and empirical model, which demonstrated the lack of incentive for owners/investors to rehabilitate a degraded area.
