The 17th edition of the Santa Barbara Seminar Series took place on December 5, at Técnico. The event included the Award Ceremony of the Filstone Merit Award in Engineering in Mining and Energy Resources. The winner of this year’s edition was Rafael Garcia, the student with the highest admission grade in the 2022/23 academic year.
This event is organised by the Mining Engineering student group at Técnico (NUMIST) and this year’s edition focused on the topic “Mining and Energetic Resources 4.0”.
During the award ceremony, Filstone’s CEO, Ricardo Jorge, referred the “challenging moments” the sector is going through and how the next generations will be fundamental to overcome them. The “teachers’ commitment” was also highlighted by Ricardo Jorge.
The event included several lectures by professors Amilcar Soares and Pedro Amaral from Técnico, engineers Flávio Viera from Filstone and Victor Morales from Orica, and professor Angel Abbud-Madrid, the Director of the Center for Space Resources at the Colorado School of Mines.
The students awarded in the previous year – Margarida Grou, Margarida Figueiredo and Alexandre Costa – had their scholarships renewed in the context of the 2nd edition of Filstone Merit Award.
