Campus and Community

40 companies attend the Business and Technology Week

The event took place at Técnico - Taguspark campus and allowed students to participate in various activities.

“Last year’s edition of the Business and Technological Week (SET), held in online format, went very well, but there is nothing better than see this campus full of dozens of companies”, highlights Helena Teixeira, coordinator of SET 2022. “The return to face-to-face format was much anticipated. I am glad that we are able to return to this business fair on campus”, shares the Técnico student.

“This year we managed to have many more companies than in previous years. 18 to 20 different companies attend the event every day”, shares Helena Teixeira. In total, more than 40 companies, including Accenture, BNP Paribas, Auchan, BPI, vision-box, NTT Data, participate in this year’s edition.

This Tuesday, March 15, Paulo Dimas, VP of Product Innovation at Unbabel Labs, shared his professional experience and how Unbabel is contributing to the technologies that we will have in the future.

Paulo Dimas’ experience and friendliness captured the attention of many students and company representatives. The alumnus talked about the next emerging technologies. “Decoding the human brain is the greatest challenge of this century and we are working on it, that is, how can we enter the human brain and be able to decode neural signals and transform them into language”, he said. “Although we don’t know when, we believe that this will be possible. There are parts of the brain responsible for speech, comprehension, and if we can get into those parts we will be able to transform these signals into language,” he added.

The event runs until Friday and SET’s team is very satisfied with the attendance of students. “We have had very good feedback from students and companies”, says Helena Teixeira. The “Speed Interview”, which allows participants to make an individual 3-minute pitch before a group of 3/4 companies, was once again included in this year’s edition.

Students whose performance stands out will have the opportunity to participate in “One-to-one”, the stage following the “Speed Interview”, where participants will be able to pitch their idea to a company, in an exclusive way.

The last day of the event, March 18, will focus on student initiatives. SET team is made up of 44 “very dynamic” students. “Many students who attend SET and see the final result, tell us that they want to be part of the next edition”, shares Helena Teixeira.
