The 12th edition of the Mechanical Engineering Seminar Series (MecanIST), held from 22nd to 24th February, included 23 round tables, ten workshops, nine lectures and one fair. The three-day event provided participants with an opportunity to learn more about the “various career paths” when entering the job market, explains Beatriz Afonso, Técnico student and coordinator of the event.
50 companies participated in MecanIST, organised by Forum Mecânica / Mechanical Engineering Student Group at Instituto Superior Técnico (NEMIST).
This event “is a way of bringing students closer to the job market, in a more informal way”, as students have the opportunity to submit their curricula through a platform. Of the 50 participating companies, only those chosen at the time of submission will be able to see the students’ curricula. This way, “there is a pre-match”, explains Beatriz.
The opening session of MecanIST was chaired by the President of Técnico, professor Rogério Colaço, who took the opportunity to talk about the historical evolution of engineering activities, which, “although they have the greatest impact on the world, they are not very well recognised”. The president also recalled “the privilege of learning”.
