6th edition of Mathematics seminar series brings together students and companies

The event was organised by the Mathematics Student Group and brought together about 230 participants.

The 6th edition of the Mathematics Seminar Series took place from 14th to 16th June, after a three-year break. The event organised by the Mathematics Student Group at Instituto Superior Técnico (NMATH) brought together about 230 participants, eight companies, and 13 speakers.

A Company Fair and several workshops promoted by partners and alumni took place on 14th and 15th June, with the aim of bringing students closer to the business world. The event also included eight lectures, to “introduce the audience to several areas of mathematics and professors from different universities, and companies”, explained the vice-president of NMATH, Isabel Nogueira. There was also an exhibition on Graphs and their applications in the Main Building’s atrium, at Alameda campus.

On the last day, several Técnico alumni (Applied Mathematics and Computation) shared their academic and professional paths and answered the students’ questions.

According to Isabel Nogueira, these seminar series were “a challenge” (once the event hasn’t been held since 2019), overcome by the “success” obtained, according to students’ feedback.
