Another Técnico professor named ACM senior member

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), one of the world’s largest computing society, distinguished another Técnico professor: Alberto Rodrigues da Silva who, along with professor João Madeiras Pereira, was named ACM senior member. Professor Alberto Rodrigues da Silva, Técnico professor at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (DEI) and INESC-ID researcher, is among the 246 nominees.

Nominees must have accrued at least 5 years of Professional ACM membership in the last 10 years and must have demonstrated performance through technical leadership, and technical or professional contributions.

According to the DEI professor, “this nomination is an important recognition mainly from the analysis of my professional career and achievements conducted throughout the last years. This is still more relevant due to the fact ACM is the major international professional association in the area of computer science and informatics engineering, with thousands of members worldwide, and an increasing number of activities and journals. With this nomination, I also join the network of ACM Senior Members and I am challenged to contribute to our professional community”.

Professor Alberto Rodrigues da Silva started his research career in 2000, at INESC-ID. Currently, he coordinates the scientific area of Information and Decision Support Systems (IDSS), and his research interests are essentially focused on the following areas: information systems , software engineering, model-driven engineering, requirements engineering, project management, document automation and their application in multiple domains. “In this scope, I coordinated and participated in several Research and Development projects, including EU projects, bilateral projects, and projects funded by national and international agencies, for example FCT, ANI, PRIME, CYTED, in areas such as citizenship and digital government, engineering, education, health, or even smart cities”, stresses the professor.

The Técnico professor is the author and co-author of 6 technical-pedagogical books and more than 200 publications in international scientific magazines, conferences and workshops. He is editor of 5 international scientific books. He is member of the Ordem dos Engenheiros and the Project Management Institute (PMI). He received the following professional awards and certificates: JEEP 2003, Scrum Master, PMP and IST Outstanding Teaching Award.

ACM is an important and prestigious organisation that brings together computing educators, researchers, and professionals, and promotes computer research and innovation through its journals, magazines, high quality scientific events and conferences.
