On 4 December 2024, Instituto Superior Técnico organised a welcome event for staff members for the third time. As in last year’s event, the Great Hall of the School of Agriculture (ISA) and the Tapada da Ajuda, hosted the “Bem-vind@ ao Técnico” event. The new employees were invited to participate in icebreaker activities and other group dynamics with the aim of getting to know each other and finding out more about the School and its services. Executive Director Nuno Pedroso delivered the opening remarks.
Lunchtime, at the Tapada da Ajuda Exhibition Pavilion, was attended by the president of Técnico Rogério Colaço who approached all the tables to meet and greet the new Técnico employees. After lunch, a peddy-paper took place through the Tapada da Ajuda bringing together people from different departments to promote closeness and contact between colleagues.
The activities, organised by the Human Resources Division (HRD), promoted interaction between employees who also had the opportunity to learn more about Técnico from the Heads of the different services, participating in a quiz with the new employees.
Cláudia Jacinto, Human Resources Director, says that over the years she has realised ‘how important it is for people to feel welcomed’ and how this will make them ‘happier’. ‘The integration of new employees has been fundamental and has allowed us to strengthen bridges between the campi,’ she concludes.
Marta Brites works in the User Support Section and chooses the “Volta ao Técnico em 90 minutos” and “Batalha de Diretores” as her favourite group dynamics, adding “this day allowed me to meet people from other teams”. Raquel Úria, who has been working in the Public Relations and Image Unit since July, shares ‘it was a good experience, which fulfilled its purpose: to give us a better understanding of how Técnico is organised, to meet people who are in the same circumstances as us and to associate faces with familiar names’.
41 new staff members from the three campi attended the event, as well as 19 speakers representing all divisions and/or sections, and the Técnico Staff Association (APIST).
In addition to this annual event, Técnico’s HRD has organised Welcome Sessions at the beginning of each month. These occasions coincide with the month in which the employee starts working at the school and include a general presentation of the institution and a guided tour of the campus.
