C2TN researcher wins the 2022 Armed Forces Innovation Award

This year's edition was dedicated to “Autonomous Systems”.

Major Luís Marques, member of C2TN and PhD student at IST, received the 2022 Armed Forces Innovation Award, for his work “Gamma radiation detection system, beta particles and neutrons coupled to a multirotor for inspection of maritime containers and detection, location and identification of radioactive sources and materials”, supervised by Dr. Pedro Vaz (C2TN and DECN) and professor Alberto Vale (IPFN and DEEC).

The Armed Forces Innovation Award aims to promote innovation, improve planning, following the evolution of research and the development activities in the area of military sciences and defence technologies and, at the same time, to forge closer links between the Armed Forces, the industry and the academic community.

This year, the award was dedicated to “Autonomous Systems”, including air, land, surface or submersible maritime systems, control or decision support platforms, with applicability in military operations and/or in support of civil emergency operations.
