The Industrial Engineering and Management Seminar Series (JEGI) at Instituto Superior Técnico took place from 19th to 21st February. The Técnico students at Taguspark campus had the opportunity to connect with potential employers and learn more about the most valuable skills in the job market. The event was organised by the Industrial Engineering and Management Students’ Organisation (NEEGI) at Técnico.
Around 30 companies and more than ten students’ organisations attended JEGI. The three days of activities were divided into the themes Learn, Do and Connect. The event featured workshops, lectures, case studies, quick interviews, promotion of recruitment programmes and networking. The main sponsor of this year’s edition was the ‘Oeiras Valley’ project.
“The importance of JEGI is mainly due to the role of the students and the students’ organisations, not only at Técnico, but particularly at Taguspark campus”, said the Vice-president of Técnico for the management of Taguspark campus, Joana Mendonça, during the opening ceremony.
According to Mariana, a 5th-year Industrial Engineering and Management master’s student, “it’s great to have this kind of opportunity to ask questions that I wouldn’t feel comfortable asking in a job interview”. She also emphasised the fact that she was able to “get new LinkedIn connections contacts from the recruitment teams”.
It wasn’t just the students who were pleased with the JEGI. According to Constança Primor, president of NEEGI, several company representatives highlighted the students’ interest and that they have “the profile we’re looking for”. They were pleased with the opportunity to “develop closer contacts with the students”, something that “makes it easier to understand how to adapt the job offer to this target audience”.
