The 10th edition of the Civil Engineering Seminar Series started with a lecture about Lisbon metro expansion, which shows “how varied and interesting Civil Engineering can be”, as professor António Pinheiro, Head of the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources, pointed out.
The event was organised by Fórum Civil (Civil Engineering Student Group at Instituto Superior Técnico) from 27th February to 3rd March, and included conferences, talks with alumni, construction site visits, workshops and a business fair. The aim is to promote students’ training and provide information about current and relevant issues in Civil Engineering.
The first construction site visit took place at Carris station, near Alameda Campus, which will house the future premises of Técnico Innovation Center.
Wearing white safety helmets, yellow vests and steel-toed boots, the group listened to the instructions given by the site supervising engineer and Técnico alumnus Francisco Pinto, because “we should always stay safe on construction sites”.
The former student guided the current students through the site and explained the progress of construction works.
