The ElectroDay brought together more than 800 people at the Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade on the afternoon of 29 June. The initiative aimed at showcasing the training offer, research centres and students’ organisations at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (DEEC).
The event included presentation sessions of courses offered by DEEC, a presentation of ISTSat-1 (the satellite that will go into space on 9 July aboard Ariane 6), and the awarding of diplomas to various projects developed by Técnico students who are now finishing their degree, carried out as part of the 1st Cycle Integrative Project curricular unit.
Once checked in at the event, each participant received three thousand ElectroCoins. From then on, it was up to them to invest in the most promising projects. One of the awarded diplomas, ‘Investors’ Choice’, even listed the ElectroDay audience’s three favourite projects, adding up all the ElectroCoins awarded to each one.
The event included panels with speakers representing Electrical and Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering and Aerospace Engineering, and the Luís Vidigal Award Ceremony, which honours the author(s) of the best final course work or master’s thesis whose topic falls within the scientific areas of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Informatics Engineering.
According to José Santos-Victor, a professor at Técnico and president of DEEC, “the event showed a great variety of work topics” in these engineering areas, emphasising that “when solid knowledge, curiosity and the ability to work are combined, our students excel”. “Electrical and computer engineering has transformed much of the society we live in: electronics, energy, communications, satellites, robotics, artificial intelligence, sustainability, mobility… future students will have the mission of continuing to change the world.”, he added.
