Environmental Engineering Seminar Series focused on reducing the ecological footprint

The Environmental Engineering Seminar Series (JEAmbi) 2019 marked the 25th anniversary of the course.

The 10th edition of JEAmbi – Environmental Engineering Seminar Series took place on 7th and 8th March. The JEAmbi logotype changed and “in order to attract more participants”, the organisation designed a programme focused on current and diverse subjects. The first day was dedicated to the topic “Waste: Management and Environment”. “Although this is the first day we had already a lot of people here, which is great. I believe this is largely due to keynote speeches”, said Patrícia Santos, president of JEAmbi committee.

Engineer António Lorena, Managing Partner at 3 drivers, talked about the circular economy. “This is a concept that we have heard a lot about but not always the right way”, he said. “The main challenge we have to face when we talk about the circular economy is prevention. The idea of circular economy is neither recent nor innovative. It is the result of a resource scarcity at a certain time”, explained engineer António Lorena.

The celebration of the 25th anniversary of Environmental Engineering course was the highlight of JEAmbi. A panel composed of several successful alumni was held on this occasion. “It was very important for us to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the course. We tried to show the audience that studying environmental engineering can lead to diverse career opportunities”, said Patrícia Santos. “We invited several alumni to honour their professional journey and to show them that we are continuing what they have started”, she added.
