IST Press published the book “Exercícios e Cálculos Introdutórios em Engenharia de Bioprocessos”, by Duarte Miguel Prazeres.

Bioprocess Engineering is a specialisation of Biological Engineering that is dedicated to the systematic study of scientific and engineering principles used in the design, operation and optimisation of biological product manufacturing processes. It addresses the development of processes that use whole cells or their components to obtain valuable products, including biopharmaceuticals, diagnostic reagents, food products and additives, laboratory reagents, agrochemicals, biofuels and various commodities.

The applications of these biological products and the underlying bioprocesses are numerous and can be found in areas such as the agri-food industry, pharmaceutical industry, energy and valorisation of effluents and waste.

The book presents a set of 150 solved exercises and 90 proposed introductory level exercises relevant in the context of Bioprocess Engineering. It is aimed at students in the first years of Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioengineering and related courses.
