The 5th edition of Physics Seminar Series (JEF) started this Monday, February 26, and included lectures, visits to laboratories, stories from alumni and direct contact with companies.
Laura Martins, member of the organising committee, is sure that JEF are different. “Our course is small but has a big theoretical component so these lectures are always a gain”, stresses the student. The presence of experts from various fields is very important. Professor Nuno Peres, from universidade do Minho gave the talk “Surface Plasmon-Polaritons in Graphene: fundamentals and applications”, which “was attended by a large audience although being a very specific topic and also due to speaker’s reputation”, highlights the student.
The lectures delivered by the alumni of MSc in Engineering Physics (MEFT) was one of the funniest moments. The alumnus Ricardo Figueira works at Google for 5 years and he’s currently the Program Manager of the company. He spoke about his career and how he always wanted to work at Google. “When I was moved to Dublin, I took my motorcycle and went there”, he shared. According to Ricardo Figueira, the training he got at Técnico was very important and gave him the ability of making everything from anything. .
Lusospace, IBM and BNP were some of the companies that participated in the event, giving participants a comprehensive market overview. A “problem Solving” session and a poster competition were also held at the end of JEF.
