The Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa) stood out, nationally and in the Iberian Peninsula, as the largest producer of scientific articles in some teaching areas at Instituto Superior Técnico – “Mathematics and Computer Science” and “Physical Sciences and Engineering” – in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, produced by the Leiden University (Netherlands).

In this edition (2024), ULisboa is also the Portuguese institution with the largest number of scientific articles in the top 10% of most cited articles in the same fields. The ranking evaluated the scientific production between 2019 and 2022 and includes 1506 universities from 72 countries.

The Leiden Ranking does not aggregate indicators into an overall score. A tool allows the user to select parameters and evaluate the results taking into account the size of the institution being analysed. It offers a sophisticated set of bibliometric indicators that provide statistics at the level of universities on scientific impact, collaboration, open access publishing and gender diversity.
