According to Nuno Guerreiro, president of Fórum Mecânica, one of the main goals of MecanIST is “to attract and to show Técnico students the different opportunities within Mechanical Engineering, inside and outside our school”.
The organisation of MecanIST expects that 400 to 600 students have already attended the different activities during the second day. This event includes the participation of several companies, as well as a set of research projects and prototypes developed at Instituto Superior Técnico. According to the president of Fórum Mecânica, this is the best way “to reach the students who are going to enter the labour market in a few months, those who intend to dedicate themselves to research or even those who just arrived and don’t know how to be a proactive student at Técnico”.
“Bringing notable speakers to this event, specially Técnico alumni, attract students because they identify themselves with the experiences described”.
This Tuesday, João Vasco Lopes, aerospace engineer and Técnico alumnus, attended MecanIST and shared his experience at the European Space Agency (ESA) and the projects he was involved in, namely special operations. He also talked about the several opportunities after finishing a course: “Space industry in Portugal is growing and there are already very good projects. First of all you should try to understand what you want to do, and then you just have to find a way to get to it”, he explained.
