On January 12, Técnico hosted the presentation of NANOMAT association at Alameda Campus, in the Civil Engineering Museum.
NANOMAT is an initiative of Técnico and Nova School of Science and Technology (FCT NOVA) that brings together industry, academia and municipalities aiming to cover the entire advanced materials value chain. According to the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education, Elvira Fortunato, in this project, both institutions collaborate for a more competitive Portuguese economy.
In this project, in which Técnico is co-founder and leader, the academia places itself at the service of industry in the creation of value-added products, by offering a research infrastructure that will accelerate technology transfer to the market. Thus, the advanced materials are conceived as accelerators of the digital economy and promoters of prosperity and well-being, always bearing in mind environmental sustainability issues.
NANOMAT’s proposal is to put “materials engineering working at its most contemporary logic”, said professor Pedro Amaral, Vice President of Técnico for Operations and Corporate Partnerships, during his “lesson on materials” – as the Rector of Universidade de Lisboa, professor Luís Ferreira, called it.
According to the president of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), professor Madalena Alves, Técnico and the other partners will embark on a “long-term mission” that will lead to a “more knowledge-based society”. “Collaboration takes us further than competition. We need to do this more often”, she added.
