“Portugal would be radically different if INESC had not existed”

Técnico hosted the ceremony of INESC’s 35th anniversary.

The commemorative book of INESC’s 35th anniversary was launched this Tuesday at Técnico.

Professor Arlindo Oliveira, president of Técnico, took the opportunity to speak about his personal experience at INESC. “For us [invited group to join INESC] was a great opportunity”, he said.

“I believe that Portugal would be radically different if INESC had not existed (…). The scientific and technological structure that we have in Portugal was strongly influenced by INESC”, he noted.

According to professor José Tribolet, founder and current president of INESC, “It is especially important to me to be here with you today”. Professor Tribolet also spoke about the history of INESC and the importance of Private Non-Profit Organisations.

Professor Pedro Guedes de Oliveira, coordinator of the commemorative book of INESC’s 35th anniversary and Director of INESC, also attended the ceremony and took the opportunity to present the book and to thank all people involved in it. At the end, he recalled professor Mariano Gago “who ensured that Science, in Portugal, followed a path of success”. “If I may say so, I believe that our 35 years were a good contribution to that success.”
