Professor Eduardo Pereira receives the D. Afonso Henriques Medal

The Técnico professor and pro-rector of Universidade de Lisboa was awarded the medal during the commemorative ceremony of the Military Academy Day.

On January 12, the Técnico professor (DECivil) and pro-rector of Universidade de Lisboa (ULisboa), professor Eduardo Pereira, was awarded the D. Afonso Henriques Medal, created in 11th October 1985 to reward military and civilians, domestic or foreign who, technically and professionally, reveal high competence, outstanding performance and relevant personal qualities, thus contributing significantly to the efficiency, prestige and fulfilment of the Portuguese Army’s mission.

The Técnico professor was awarded during the ceremony that marked the Military Academy Day, which was chaired by the Deputy Minister of National Defence, Dr. Jorge Seguro Sanches. The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of Staff of the Portuguese Army, General José Nunes da Fonseca, and the GNR Commander General, Lieutenant General Rui Manuel Carlos Clero.

Professor Eduardo Pereira currently holds the position of pro-rector of ULisboa. He was vice-rector of Universidade Técnica de Lisboa – UTL (2012-2013) and vice-rector of ULisboa (until 2021).

He got his academic degrees (BSc, MSc and PhD) from Técnico and he is currently Associate Professor of Structural Mechanics at DECivil.

Professor Eduardo Pereira has held several leading positions at Técnico. He was member of UTL Assembly and, later, he was member of the UTL Senate.

His main research interests focus on Computational Methods for Structural Analysis; Hybrid-Mixed Finite Elements; Non-Linear Analysis of Reinforced Concrete; Composite Laminates.
