Professor José Pedro Martins Barata, invited professor at the Department of Civil Engineering, Architecture and Georesources, who was one of the promoters of the Architecture course at Técnico and its first coordinator, was honoured by the President of the Portuguese Republic with the Grand Cross of the Order of Public Instruction, on July 30.

During his extensive professional activity, professor José Pedro Martins Barata developed his work in the areas of architecture, graphic design, equipment design, plastic arts and exhibitions.

The professor also worked for the Ministry of Education, Lisbon City Hall, Instituto de Estudos para o Desenvolvimento, OECD, Universidade Nova de Lisboa, Faculty of Architecture of the former Universidade Técnica de Lisboa, Instituto Português de Arquivos, Centro Português de Design and Banco de Portugal / European Monetary Institute.
