Seven Técnico students received scholarships awarded by AXIANS, a member of the Técnico Partner Network, in recognition of their academic merit. The award ceremony took place on 12 October at the Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade, as part of the ‘world’s largest computer programming lesson’, which placed Técnico in the Guinness Book of Records.
João Tamagnini and Mehakpreet Khosa, Computer Science and Engineering undergraduate students, Daniel Alves, Mikail Amade and Diogo Rego, Electrical and Computer Engineering undergraduate students, João Norte, Computer Science and Engineering master’s student and Cristiano Mendonça, Applied Mathematics and Computation master’s student, were honoured in this year’s edition. These students stood out for their academic performance in technological areas.
Francisco Melo, Vice-President of Técnico for Academic Affairs, thanked AXIANS for helping Técnico students continue to fight for their dreams. ‘I congratulate the scholarship holders on seeing their effort and merit rewarded. I’m sure they’ll live up to the responsibility,’ he added.
Tiago Roxo, the driving force behind the project at AXIANS, emphasised the importance of this initiative. ‘We’re delighted to be able to support the academic success of Técnico students in this way too’, he said. The company representative believes that ‘solidarity is one of our values, it’s something we want to live by every day – this is a small way of giving back to society.’
The competition for AXIANS Scholarships is aimed at all Técnico students enrolled in the 1st and 2nd cycle of studies of Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Telecommunications and Informatics Engineering.
The partnership between AXIANS and Instituto Superior Técnico is part of a wider plan for co-operation between academia and the business community, aimed at creating development opportunities for students and bringing scientific and technological innovation closer to market needs.
