Four Técnico students receive “XPAND IT” academic merit scholarships

The scholarship patron is a Técnico Spin-Off co-founded by a Técnico alumnus.

On 29th November, Xpand IT awarded three scholarships and renewed one scholarship. This scholarship programme aims to reward the academic merit of Computer Science and Engineering students who take part in voluntary activities. The IT consulting company that funds and gives its name to the scholarship is a Técnico Spin-Off co-founded by the alumnus Marco Oliveira.

Alexandre Francisco, Vice President of Técnico for Academic Affairs, congratulated the scholarship holders and thanked XPAND IT “for their support and for recognising the academic merit of the students”. Marta Alegria, the company’s representative, advised the students to “make the most” of their studies, and left a word of appreciation for the Academic Development Unit (NDA), which was “an excellent help” in establishing this protocol.

Bernardo Sousa, whose scholarship was renewed, thanked the patron and said that without this support, “I probably wouldn’t have got such a good grade (18 out of 20) in Calculus subject”, drawing laughter from those present. The other scholarship holders also expressed their gratitude. Diogo Pinto, shared that he will “be able to devote more time and energy to study”. He also emphasised the fact that the volunteer work required by the scholarship “is a way to give back to society”.
