Técnico Alumna of MEGM Catarina Luz receives AP3E award

In june 8th 2018, Geological and Mining Engineering Alumna, Catarina de Alcântara Luz, received the 2017 AP3E award.

This is the third time that a Técnico Alumnus has this distinction under five editions of this award. The first was awarded in 2009 with the master thesis “New formulations for ground vibrations propagation laws under rock masses based in explosives thermodynamical properties” by Técnico Alumna Ana Louro and the second one, in 2015, with the master thesis “Comparative study between several blast techniques for economic and environmental optimization” by Técnico Alumnus João Cardoso.

AP3E – Associação Portuguesa de Estudos e Engenharia de Explosivos is a Portuguese technical and scientific association that has the mission to solve and discuss problems, concerning the areas or pyrotechnique and explosive substances and their applications. AP3E assigns every two years this award that distinguishes the best scientific works made by students of the Portuguese higher education institutes.

This year, the jury, composed by academic and industrial professionals, decided, with unanimity, to award Catarina’s dissertation titled “Contribution for the development of new prediction models of blast-induced ground vibrations”. This dissertation was developed at CERENA – Center for Natural Resources and the Environment, from the Civil, Architecture and Georesources Department of Técnico Lisboa, under the supervision of Professor Pedro Bernardo and Doctor Gustavo Paneiro.
