Técnico Alumni at the Web Summit

Several alumni attended the Web Summit to talk about a wide range of topics, such as innovation on health, data processing, startups and digital economy.

Hundreds of students, alumni, professors, researchers and staff from Técnico attended the Web Summit, the world’s largest technology conference, which is held in Lisbon until Thursday. A group of Técnico alumni attended the event to talk about a wide range of topics.

Jaime Jorge, founder of Codacy and winner of the Web Summit pitching competition in 2013, participated in the talk “Portugal: Startup Nation”, held in the first night of the conference (November 7). Miguel Amaro, founder of UniPlaces, João Vasconcelos, Secretary of State for Industry and Paddy Cosgrave, founder and CEO of Web Summit, also participated in this talk.

Carlos Moedas, European Commissioner for Research, Innovation and Science, participated in a session on November 8, and spoke about Europe, cities and digital economy, accompanied by Gillian Tans, President and CEO of booking.com, Mathieu Nebra, co-founder of OpenClassrooms and Ann Mettler, Head of the European Political Strategy Centre.

Tiago Paiva, co-founder of TalkDesk, and Dave McClure, founder of 500 Startups, will participate in the session “From Lisbon to Silicon Valley and back”; Diogo Mónica, Security Lead at Docker, will speak about “Ethical Data”.

Pedro Oliveira, Founder and Project Leader of Patient Innovation, and Francisco Veloso, Dean at Católica Lisbon School of Business & Economics, will attend HealthConf and Patient Innovation Awards, which distinguish seven projects within the Patient Innovation project.

The Web Summit, which is held in Lisbon for the first time, runs until Thursday at FIL and Meo Arena.
