The partnership between the Directorate General for Energy and Geology (DGEG) and Técnico resulted in an Energy Efficiency Manual for Industry, which includes cross-cutting energy efficiency measures for the Industry sector. The Manual was presented this Monday morning, December 11, at Salão Nobre and results from the work carried out by professors Henrique Matos, Cristina Fernandes and Clemente Pedro Nunes, from the Centre for Natural Resources and the Environment (CERENA).
Professor Arlindo Oliveira, president of Técnico, opened the session and highlighted the importance of this subject. “All of us agree that this is a key issue”, he underlined. “Energy efficiency is undoubtedly an important issue to our country, to the industry sector and to the environment”, he said.
Mário Guedes, Director-General of Energy and Geology, and Carlos Cardoso, Vice President of CIP, reiterated the relevance of this subject. “We hope that this is only the first step of a new phase in the path to energy efficiency”, said António Saraiva.
Professor Clemente Pedro Nunes presented the cross-cutting measures that can be applied to the industrial sector and shared the international initiatives held in this area. Electric motor driven systems, heat recovery, heat and cold production, and industrial lighting were some of the examples of good practices. “Our goal is energy efficiency and not decreasing energy consumption”, said professor Clemente Pedro Nunes.
Mário Guedes shared a message on behalf of the Secretary of State for Energy, Jorge Seguro Sanches, who couldn’t attend the event: “It’s very important to raise awareness among stakeholders, showing that sustainable consumption and production can be achieved”.
