The “Engenharia e Ciência vão à Escola” initiative will take place from 18 to 22 November 2024 and will involve engineers and scientists from Instituto Superior Técnico, who will visit more than 100 primary schools and conduct outreach activities related to their research work.
The initiative was created with the aim of bringing new generations closer to science, innovation and technology. As part of Science and Technology Week, the initiative aims to inspire and enthuse children and young people, and awaken their interest in scientific and technological areas.
The Técnico engineers and scientists will organise several activities, such as:
- Using maths to save lives;
- A different way of making electricity;
- The magic of chemistry: exploring the invisible world around us;
- Using ionising radiation technologies for a sustainable environment;
- An Adventure in the World of Proteins: Discovering New Forms through Science.
- What lies beneath our feet?
- The magic of underground heat
- The science of trains!
- Nuclear fusion in the age of climate change.
- How are robots built?
- The life of a domestic robot.
Science and Technology Week takes place every year on 24 November to celebrate the National Day of Scientific Culture in honour of Rómulo de Carvalho. It brings together science communication and science outreach activities across the country to promote scientific knowledge among the younger generations.
