Monday morning – the start of another day, the start of another week and, for 47 professors and researchers, the start of a new career contract at Instituto Superior Técnico. The moment was marked on 7 April, at a ceremony held at Técnico Innovation Center powered by Fidelidade.
‘Técnico was created with the aim of training people to help the country develop economically’, recalled Rogério Colaço, the President of Técnico, before the symbolic signing of contracts. ‘You are all key players in influencing the Técnico students’, he continued, characterising the moment as an ‘act of symbolism, of renewal and promotion of Técnico’s human resources’, which is ‘of the utmost importance’.
The ceremony also included testimonials from Luís Oliveira e Silva, president of the School Council, who said it was ‘emblematic to celebrate this ceremony at the beginning of spring, as it is ’a moment of renewal”.
According to the president of the Scientific Council, Pedro Brogueira, ‘being able to welcome and giving tools to do better professionally is something Técnico tries to be different at’ and that he ‘expects to fulfil the expectations’ of the new hires.
Miguel Cacho Teixeira, the president of the Pedagogical Council, emphasised that ‘pedagogy plays a very important role’ at Técnico, and that ‘we want to strike a balance between being excellent researchers and also being excellent professors’.
