Técnico has new classrooms improved with interactive screens and sound system

Since March 2024, the Mining Engineering Building at Técnico – Alameda campus has two new classrooms (IA1 and IA2), equipped with interactive screens and a sound system. The classrooms can be used as a single space, with capacity for 200 people, or separately. This equipment allows students ‘in the back rows to see what the speaker is presenting and ensures that it is heard throughout the room,’ explains Francisco Melo, the Vice-President of Técnico for Academic Affairs. The rooms have removable furniture that makes it easy to change the layout of the room depending on the teaching practices.

The classrooms will be primarily used for teaching activities with large numbers of students, regardless of the course. However, they ‘can be used for meetings and other events’ as long as this doesn’t interfere with their main function, says Francisco Melo.
Given the large size of these rooms, when combined, it was possible to give back the Great Hall its function as the school’s noble space.

The investment in these rooms ‘totalled around 227,000 euros’. Several classrooms at Alameda campus are due to be renovated, adapted to different teaching practices. ‘The first room for the Integrative Course Project (PIC), in the Civil Engineering Building, is also under preparation’ he said.
