Nuno Silvestre, an Associate Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of Instituto Superior Técnico and researcher at IDMEC, was appointed Editor-in-Chief for Thin-Walled Structures journal, published by Elsevier since 1983. This is one of the most prestigious magazines in the field of structural engineering , with emphasis on thin structures, with applications in several branches of engineering (aeronautics, mechanics, civil, naval and automotive)
Throughout its 34 years of existence, the magazine had only two Editors, both living in the United Kingdom. Professor Nuno Silvestre, the first Portuguese to hold this position, noted that “this appointment is the international recognition of the work developed at Instituto Superior Técnico in the field of thin-walled structures, from macroscale to nanoscale”. Currently, more than a thousand scientific papers are submitted to Thin-Walled Structures annually. Holding this position will require much time and dedication, as well as high responsibility, but it will certainly contribute to promote Portuguese engineering abroad, namely through Técnico.
